It may not have been a perfect rally day (some of us were hoping for more snow and other weather challenges) but it was clear, cold, and breezy for the 2025 ASCC Rally of the Midwinter Moon. A ton of preparation had gone into the organization of this rally, and the rallymasters had all of the i’s dotted and t’s crossed – well, everything within their control anyway. The Shubenacadie Fire Hall provided a cozy registration venue, and 12 crews gathered for preparation, nervous chatter and a bit of training before taking on this challenging, 216 km route.
I was lucky enough to jump in the rallymaster’s Subaru for a visit to the staffed CPs, and by the time we were back at the finish control at the Millstone Public House in Lantz, it was well and truly dark. We don’t have night rallies very often in the region (although I’m hoping that changes) and I imagined the crews battling not just the route instructions and timekeeping chores, but the added challenge of dark forest roads. It’s always a bit concerning when rally crews head off to tackle a route; we all wish for good competition and a safe return of all crews.
I needn’t have worried. Everyone made it back safely to the Millstone for refreshments and sustenance, interspersed with lots of chatter, laughter, eye-rolls, table slaps and shoulder shrugs, amongst other things. Dash plaques were awarded, hands were shaken, photos were taken, promises were made to come out to the next event – a perfect rally with great people (more Novices than Experienced crews, which is ideal) and great conditions.

The Richta Rally system test went well and I know everyone is well prepared for the New Scotland Road Rally in May. Why not join in the fun on May 3 in Truro? Keep an eye on our website, ASCC Facebook page and website, and the event’s Facebook page for further info as the date draws closer. As of this writing, we’re 94 days away and it will be here before you know it.
Rally on!
